Smecta is used:

  • for the treatment of acute diarrhea in children over 2 years of age in combination with the use of oral rehydration solution and acute diarrhea in adults
  • in the symptomatic treatment of chronic functional diarrhea in adults

Taking:

Always use this medicine exactly as described in this leaflet or as directed by your doctor or pharmacist. If in doubt, ask your doctor or pharmacist.

Treatment of acute diarrhea:

For children over 2 years of age - 2 sachets a day.

At the beginning of an episode of acute diarrhea, the dose may be doubled (i.e. up to 4 sachets per day).

In adults - Typically, 3 sachets a day are used

At the beginning of an episode of acute diarrhea, the dose may be doubled (i.e. up to 6 sachets per day)

Symptomatic treatment of chronic functional diarrhea:

In adults - Typically, 3 sachets a day are used

Treatment duration:

If you do not feel better or if you feel worse after 2 to 3 days, contact your doctor. It is not recommended to use Smecta for a long time or frequently without consulting a doctor.

Method and route of administration:

Oral administration. Immediately before administration, the contents of the sachet should be dissolved in liquid until a suspension is obtained.

For children over 2 years of age: The contents of the sachet can be dissolved in a bottle with 50 ml of water and administered in small portions during the day; it can also be mixed with semi-liquid foods: broth, cooked fruit, purees, ready-made meals for children.

For adults: The contents of the sachet can be dissolved in half a glass of water.

Interactions:

Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking, have recently taken or might take any other medicines.

The adsorption properties of this medicine may affect the rate and/or extent of absorption of other substances. Therefore, no other medicine should be given at the same time as diosmectite.

A 2-hour break is recommended between taking Smecta and other medicines.

Use during pregnancy and breastfeeding:

There are no or limited data on the use of Smecta in pregnant or breast-feeding women.

Smecta is not recommended for use during pregnancy.

Smecta should not be used during breastfeeding.

The effect of the drug on human fertility has not been assessed.

The active substance of the drug is: Diosmectite (Aluminosilicate). One sachet contains 3 g of Diosmectite in the form of Aluminosilicate.

The other excipients are: Glucose monohydrate, Sodium saccharin, Orange flavor (Maltodextrin, Sucrose, Gum arabic (E 414), Mono- and diglycerides of fatty acids esterified with mono- and diacetyl tartaric acid (E 472e), Silicon dioxide (E 551), Flavor orange), vanilla flavor (Maltodextrin, Sucrose, glycerin triacetate (E 1518), silicon dioxide (E 551), ethyl alcohol, soy lecithin (E 322), vanilla flavor).
