Type I collagen – what is it and how does it work?

Type I collagen is a key protein found in the human body. Mainly responsible for the firmness and elasticity of the skin and the strength of connective tissue. It is the most common type of collagen in the human body, constituting the foundation of our skin, bones and tendons. Thanks to it, the skin retains its elasticity and the bones and tendons are strong and resistant to damage.

In the field of cosmetology and aesthetic medicine, type I collagen is valued for its regenerating and rejuvenating properties. As we age, the production of type I collagen in our body decreases, resulting in loss of skin firmness and other tissue changes.

After the age of 25, it should be supplied from outside in the form of dietary supplements, cosmetic treatments or cosmetic preparations.

Type II collagen – what is it and how does it work?

Type II collagen is a specialized protein found in joint cartilage. This particular type of collagen plays a key role in providing elasticity and strength to cartilage. Therefore, collagen II predisposes to the proper functioning of our joints.

As we age, the production of type II collagen may decrease. This leads to cartilage problems such as arthritis and osteoarthritis.

Type II collagen is sometimes used in cosmetics, although it is not as common as type I or III collagen. Due to its moisturizing and regenerative properties, some cosmetic companies have noticed the potential of using type II collagen in skin care products.
