Cod liver oil & Omega

EFAs - Essential fatty acids are a large family of chemical compounds of an exogenous nature - their source is appropriate food - the body cannot synthesize them on its own. Important compounds in this group are the omega-3 family, which includes, among others: DHA and EPA - their source is fish oil - traditional cod liver oil. We must not forget that linseed oil may be the source of these acids.

Omega-3 fatty acids are important for the prevention of cardiovascular diseases, supporting appropriate levels of cholesterol and triglycerides. Omega-3s are an important element for the development of the brain and nervous system of infants, newborns and children. The appropriate level of omega 3 fatty acids should be present in the diet of women during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Other representatives of EFAs, also known as PUFAs (polyunsaturated fatty acids), are: alpha-linolenic acid - belongs to omega 3. Representatives of omega-6 acids are linoleic and gamma-linolenic acid. The compounds mentioned above can be found, among others: in borage oil, evening primrose oil - both as a drinking liquid or capsules. Oils of this type are most often cold-pressed and contain added vitamin A and/or E. Omega 6 acids are involved in maintaining proper cholesterol levels. Omega 9 representatives include oleic acid (most often in the form of an ester).
